How do they make those crystal glass ornaments with a 3D picture inside?

You can buy an ornament made of crystal with a 3D image inside, of say the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, or the Golden Gate Bridge. Also you can have one made using a specially taken photo of yourself or a loved one. How do they get the 3D image into the block of glass????

I just had one made on holiday of my kids, they take a photo of what you want dor the image and put it on a pc, i think its a special programme that scans the image into 3D, then the image is lasered into the block. The laser shoots into the block cracking the crystal to create the image. That is the best way i can explain it. I don't know the technical side of how the computer and laser works!!
