laser engraving.....? OK, maybe someone in DYI can answer this. Laser engraving - you can put a print on pretty much anything? right? plastic, metal, etc... If I was looking to have some custom coins made up. Instead of paying a lot. I was thinking getting some blank poker chips or some metal slugs. then having a laser engraver just put my graphic on it. Do you think this can be done? Where can you get coin shaped metal slugs? thanks

Using a laser engraving machine to make product cartons? Does anyone know if it's possible to make product and postal cartons using a laser engraver? I would obviously guess that it's easy to laser cut the basis templates but can you get the laser engraver to make a shallow cut along the fold lines to make the assembly of the boxes easier e.g the cardboard is say 3mm thickness and the laser cuts along the fold lines to a depth of 2mm.

Suitable location for laser engraving machine? I'm considering buying a laser engraving machine e.g Epilog Legend or Laserpro Spirit, and need to know whether or not these type of machines can be used within a garage environment. I'm thinking in terms of fire risk etc - I'm considering using a garage that has cans of paint and other flamable items stored. Also, the garage is not heated so could get quite cold sometimes during the year.

I have laser etched glass, how can you make the engraving more frosted? I have a laser etched photograph on glass. The etching is not as frosted as I would like. Is there anything additional that I can do to frost the etching more? I have to apply black vinal on the opposite side to see the results. Any suggestions?

Will laser engraving on the outside of a tungsten wedding band ring hold up over time? My fiance wants to get a tungsten wedding band with laser engraving on the OUTSIDE of the band (it has a celtic knot design on the outside). He is worried, however, that over time the celtic knotwork will get scratched. Safe to Laser Engrave Ipod? Hi, i have an ipod touch 2nd gen, and i was wondering whether or not it would be safe to get it laser engraved at a jewelers. I just didnt know because of how thin my ipod is. I didnt know if the laser would make it too hot and would cause the ipod to have issues. Building a high power laser device? I'm working on a project that is supposed to use a laser beam to engrave symbols on such surfaces as wood. There're tutorials on the Internet about converting a regular laser pointer into a burning device (uses DVD diode) but its power is not sufficient for my purpose. Where can I find a travel mug that I can get a company logo engraved onto, not screen printed? I am looking for a stainless-steel or plastic tumbler type mug that I can order and have our company logo etched or laser engraved onto, without any color to the logo. What are the insurance/tax implications for making and selling items from home? From what I have already learned, you can make items at home on a hobby basis without making the house insurance policy invalid. I am in the process of starting up a furnishings business, although so far I have not registered the business etc and I have not sold anything yet. I want to buy and use a laser engraving machine (the machine would cost about £14,000 to buy) at home in my garage because it would save me having to pay out lots of money on renting out an industrial unit. What I need to know is what exactly are you allowed to do on a hobby basis without affecting the insurance cover. The questions I have are: (1) Am I allowed to develop some items which I might sell at a later date when I finally officially start up the business? (2) Can you make and sell anything as long as it is not under a company name? (3) Are you not allowed to make and sell a single item under a company name without making the insurance invalid. One final question. (4) The laser engraving machine would be quite a large and expensive machine. If I made an insurance claim because for instance the machine caused a fire that damaged other items within the property, would the insurance company question the fact that I was saying I was using it on just a hobby basis. In other words does the size and cost of equipment used at home matter at all? What if I made a whole load of items and then stored them somewhere else, for instance in a storage unit. Then at a later date I started the business and sold them all. Would that be OK?

Need advice on vinyl cutting equipment for small side business? I am considering a small side business doing vinyl cutting for window decals, signs, etc. and need advice. I do not at this time plan to do large jobs. I would like to also be able to cut reflective vinyl. Is there any online resource on what machine would be best for my needs. I've spent most of the morning surfing the net and have not found much info. I would also like to know of any other uses I might be able to use the cutter for to help pay for it. The software graphics program I'm most familiar with is CorelDRAW. I did work at a computer laser engraving shop for a few years but we did not do any vinyl.

What will take crazy glue off of a silver locket without damaging it? I had the dumb idea of super gluing a picture into my locket. Well the picture faded and got messed up from it so I want to laser engrave my pic in it instead. What will take it off completely so that it's smooth again? It is .925 sterling silver. I don't want to ruin it. I've tried WD40 and soaking it in water but with no luck. What about acetone from nail polish remover? Will that work or will it damage my locket? What other solutions are there? If nail polish remover will work, how long should I soak it for?
